Mother Nature has brought forth a Spring fury of rain and overcast skies, causing rainout after rainout in the Powerline Baseball League schedule. Even on days where rainfall is limited, the fields remain saturated and often have standing water on them from heavier rain the day before. Teams are sent scrambling to re-schedule games and are trying to get as many re-scheduled before the July 12 regular season deadline as possible.
Here is a list of games that have been postponed due to the weather so far this season and their makeup dates if known;
May 15 – Armena Royals at Camrose Axemen – Sunday July 7 (at 7pm)
June 10 – Rosalind Athletics at Edmonton Expos – Monday July 8
June 19 – Holden Blue Jays at Camrose Axemen – Sunday June 23
June 20 – Leduc Milleteers at Camrose Roadrunners – TBA
June 20 – Tofield Braves at Armena Royals – Thursday July 11
June 20 – Rosalind Athletics at Holden Blue Jays – Tuesday July 9
June 25 – Tofield Braves at Edmonton Expos – Wednesday July 10 (in Tofield)
June 25 – Armena Royals at Leduc Milleteers – Tuesday July 9
June 25 – Tofield Braves at Holden Blue Jays – Scheduled for June 26
June 26 – Tofield Braves at Holden Blue Jays (Vegreville) – Wednesday July 3
June 26 – Rosalind Athletics at Camrose Axemen – Sunday July 7 (at 4pm)
June 27 – Rosalind Athletics at Camrose Roadrunners – Sunday July 7 (at 7pm, in Rosalind)
Teams are hoping for some clear and sunny skies over the next couple of days, however with more rain forecasted in the area on Wednesday June 26, there is the risk that the fields will not be ready until after the Canada Day holiday now. In years past, the league has seen teams book a field at a neutral site such as Sherwood Park if their home field is unplayable. That however was for a game or two in a season and not a decent handful of games.
Fans are encouraged to check the Schedule/Standings section of the website as the league will update the schedule with re-scheduled games when they are announced by the teams.
