Milleteers Drop Game One
Posted May 11, 2011
For the first time in their history the Milleteers will start the PBL campaign 0-1 after dropping a close one late in Holden tonight. Despite a team record tieing 14 strikeouts from starter Steven Pahl in only 6 innings of work, the pesky Holden hitters capitalized on a couple of walks and key errors with some clutch hitting.
The normally solid Milleteer defense was pretty rusty tonight after the weather shortened Spring Training as they had a few drops and uncharacteristic defensive miscues that all seemed to turn into runs.
On the flip side the offense just could never put Holden starter Steve Hrabek away despite five walks in the first two innings and stranded 12 baserunners throughout the game.
After letting Hrabek off the hook he settled down until the sixth when the Milleteers finally got a two out hit as Pahl helped his own cause with a two out double to take the lead. It was short lived though as Holden pushed two across in their half of the inning and then held on to the win with the tieing run on second.
The Milleteers will look to bounce back tomorrow night as they host the rebooted Roadrunners at home in Leduc.
