Rivalry shifts to Telus Field for make-up
Posted June 13, 2012
The growing storied rivalry between the Bardo Athletics and Leduc Milleteers will take another turn at the end of the month when a make-up game will head to somewhat vacant Telus Field in Edmonton on June 28.
It’s the first time in my memory a Powerline Baseball League game will be played at Telus Field.
PBL president and Leduc Milleteer Steven Pahl joked about Telus Field being an option for some games when it was announced the Edmonton Capitals were closing down shop for a season.
The Edmonton Prospects of the WMBL are playing their games there this season, but for a cost, anyone can rent the diamond.
It has also been discussed before at having some sort of all-star game or North Central tournament at the ballpark. Money and timing always seem to be a hurdle.
Knowing Leduc’s fondness for raising cash, however, and milking the government for provincial grants, it’s nice to see a couple teams will take the opportunity for a neutral site game at the beautiful minor league park.
Whether it leads to future games remains to be seen. I personally prefer a game in Armena or Bardo, but that’s my 15-year-career in the farmers league creeping in on me.
Game time is 7 p.m. I don’t think there will be paid admission required or Capital dogs sold.
