Milleteers Comeback Against Bardo

Despite the two teams being at the opposite end of the standings, as usual the two rivals had another close game, albeit, not the most esthetically pleasing.  The Milleteers went with knuckle baller Shawn Brinkworth as the conventional thinking was that the gusting winds would make it virtually unhittable.  The problem was the strong winds made it also uncontrollable so the veteran would have to turn to the fastball and curve.  The Bardo hitters however were all over those offerings as they slugged two in the first, one in the second, and another in the third on six hits, including a double and a triple.

The Milleteers would counter with two of their own in a bizarre bottom of the second as starter Ryan Oleson, who usually has quite good control, beaned the first two batters.  The Milleteers then botched a bunt, but got a favorable call on a fielder’s choice to the third baseman to load the bases.  Then a blown call on a check swing almost got the Athletics out of the jam, but a walk and an error to the second baseman allowed the Milleteers to score two.

After three the Milleteers went to the bullpen as first big Chad Soucy got the call and faced the minimum as he went two scoreless aided by a double play in the fourth (and possibly another blown call.)  Then closer Ryan Walker worked a scoreless sixth and seventh to give his team a chance for the comeback.

In the fifth the Milleteers tied it up after another bizarre inning as a two one out singles and a walk loaded the bases before two wild pitches tied it up.  Then Oleson buckled down and got a strikeout and a flyout to end the threat.

In the sixth the Milleteers again got back to back singles as they finally got one by 3B Ken Bragett who was knocking them down and throwing guys out from his knees again tonight to go along with some hard hits at the plate.  The Milleteers then got the sac bunt down to get runners at second and third with one out.   Then with the drawn in infield catcher Shane Gerein ripped a line drive just over the 2B glove to give the Milleteers their first lead of the game, which they wouldn’t relinquish.

Next up for the Milleteers will be a short road trip to Beaumont on Thursday to take on the expansion Angels.
